The Anaphylaxis and Food Allergy Association of Minnesota (AFAA) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Because living with food allergies can be challenging, frightening, and at times overwhelming, our mission is to educate, advocate for, and support people with life-threatening food allergies and
their families.

Our motto is Taking the Fear out of Food Allergies. We believe that food allergies can be successfully managed, and that policy changes and community education are essential in creating a safe society for food-allergic individuals.

Founded by husband and wife, Jeff Schaefer and Nona Narvaez in 2001, AFAA now has more than 4,000 associate members, including families, physicians, school and clinical nurses, dietitians, foodservice professionals, and teachers.

AFAA is also an affiliate of the World Allergy Organization, and member of the Food Allergy Initiative’s Policy Steering Committee.
