HALLOWEEN

ALLERGY-FREE ZONE!

Food allergens are scarier than ghosts and goblins at this time of year - but here is a fun and safe option for kids: join us on Halloween, October 31st, at the annual Allergy-Free Zone!

Allergy-Free Zone Friday, October 31

Mall of America 3 p.m.

60 E Broadway, Bloomington, Minnesota 55425

At 3 p.m. kids can receive non-food treats from AFAA volunteers at the Mall of America's annual Halloween event!

Are you a teen that is too old for trick-or-treating? Or an adult that wants some Halloween fun for a short time? Or someone who is bilingual? Volunteer for the Allergy-Free Zone!  Choose from set-up 1-3 p.m.; handing out trinkets either 3-4:30 or 4:30-6; or tear-down/load out 6-7 p.m. Volunteers receive a free smiling pumpkin teeshirt!

Help us create a fun place for all and a safe space for food allergic kids!

ALLERGENS ARE SCARY

SO

STAY SAFE!

Giving candy on Halloween? Offer safer options.

If Giving Candy, Remember!

1) Purchased bags of mixed candy have allergen cross-contact;

2) Candy bowls of mixed candy can cause allergen cross-contact;

3) Fun-size candy may not be safe even if full-size is;

4) Always read bag labels!

If Trick-or-Treating, Remember!

1) Carry emergency epinephrine & know when & how to use it;

2) Have parent read labels (know mixed purchased bags, mixed candy bowls, and fun-size likely have cross-contact);

3) Don't eat until returning home (to reduce temptation eat a meal or snack before heading out);

4) Ahead of time consider giving neighbors safe candy or toys to give to your child when they knock (bag, seal and label it to avoid mix-ups); OR

5) Consider switching your child's collected candy bag for safe candy or toys.
